Energy Efficiency A Factor For Prospective Tenants
A property expert has suggested that prospective tenants are showing a preference for energy-efficient properties when they are viewing rental accommodation.
David Salusbury, Chairman of the National Landlords Association, said tenants are increasingly choosing properties that are cheaper to heat due to the rising cost of gas and electricity.
"Landlords can help make their properties more desirable and reduce voids by taking a few simple steps to make them more sustainable," he added.
Mr Salusbury suggested owners should consider ways they can make their properties greener, as this will help to reduce their occupant's energy bills.
The Energy Saving Trust has urged landlords to insulate their residences to stop heat from escaping and it advised fitting lagging to hot water tanks and pipes, to reduce heat loss and prevent them from freezing in the winter.
Sarah Compo from the Trust said that everyone can help in fighting climate change and simple alterations, such as turning the central heating down by one degree, can make a significant difference.
