Energy Efficiency To Grow As Issue For Buyers

A specialist in sustainability has predicted that demand from buyers for energy-efficient homes will grow in coming years.

Anwar Harland-Khan, Chief executive of Sustain Worldwide, explained how consumers will come to expect energy-efficient accommodation and this will lead to a premium being placed on green properties.

"We are already seeing an increase in demand for green homes. The combination of legislation, increasing fuel costs and a more educated house buyer, means it will undoubtedly increase," he stated. An upper tier in housing and second dwelling specifications will be created, Mr Harland-Khan remarked.

The expert's comments follow the release of a report from Knight Frank entitled 'Green Homes 2010', which revealed that the construction industry is willing to adhere to government requirements in regards to constructing zero carbon properties, but a clearer definition is required for them to do so.

A recent survey by Thinkinsulation.com, suggested that 80% of homeowners have neglected to improve insulation in their dwellings over the last three years.
