Energy Schemes Could Greatly Benefit Property Owners

Jessica Forster, the energy doctor for the Energy saving Trust, has suggested that UK home owners should be mindful of potential home improvements that could save them money.

In particular, Ms Forster drew attention to the fact that the cost of solar panelling has seen a decrease, leading to the conclusion that homeowners would be smart to invest and gain the full benefits of the current Feed-in Tariff scheme.

These comments come in conjunction with Energy Saving Week 2011, which occurs between October 24th and 30th in the UK. During this week organisations including the Enerdy Saving Trust provide advice and direction on ways that home owners can reduce their energy consumption.

Ms Forster noted that there have been nearly 90,000 installations of microgeneration technologies since April last year, so it "goes without saying" that Feed-in Tariffs have proved a popular incentive for people.
The expert drew attention to the installations of microgeneration technologies that have taken place since April 2010, that number almost 90,000. This, she asserted, provided enough evidence to make it clear that Feed-in Tariffs were a winning incentive.

She continued, "If you're looking at solar PV (photovoltaic) or other microgeneration [options] as an investment, we would advise taking advantage now.

"The rate of tariff you sign up to now you're locked in to for up to 25 years - and you cannot be sure this will be the rate forever."
Nevertheless, the expert was careful to note that the greatest savings on energy are made by those who invest in the “less flashy basics”, such as insulation.
