Ghost Stories Can Put Off Potential Buyers
A recent report has suggested that though a purportedly 'haunted' house will attract more viewings, genuine prospective buyers are more likely to turn down a property that has been associated with ghostly goings-on.
According to the report from Clydesdale and Yorkshire Banks, 51% of British homebuyers would back out of a sale if they found the house in question had a ghostly tenant. However, 46% of buyers admitted their curiosity would make them more likely to view such an abode if they heard it was inhabited by a supernatural presence.
Steve Reid, Retail Director for Clydesdale Bank stated that a haunted property can be a double-edged sword, as although it will attract more viewers, they will be less likely to actually purchase.
"In reality, 99 per cent of noises and seemingly strange occurrences have perfectly reasonable explanations - like loose floorboards, birds nesting in the loft or a dodgy boiler," he added.
The Halifax House Price Index recently revealed the average cost of a property dropped by 3.6% in September and prospective buyers will now have to pay £162,096 if they want to purchase a residence.
