Increased Popularity For Eco-Friendly Home Solutions

In an attempt to decrease household outgoings, many homeowners are turning to improving their properties to be more eco-friendly. It has been maintained that this trend has been on the rise, and is set to continue for many months ahead.

The editor of Homebuilding & Renovating magazine, Jason Orme, has seen a marked increase in the popularity for such home improvement methods, in line with people wanting to keep their energy bills as low as possible.

He stated that "there is a desire, which has been long-standing over the last few years, [concerning] a reaction to increasing energy bills. It is not necessarily a summer thing, but people will take advantage of summer to take on projects like this.”

A published report organised by Lloyds TSB confirmed that spending on DIY solutions has been its lowest since 1998. The figures dropped by 13% between 2009 and 2010, with spending dropping from a total of £10.9 billion to £9.5 billion.

Mr Orme stated that although other methods of home improvement have waned in popularity, new eco-friendly incentives should continue to thrive. The industry of eco-friendly home improvement centres on upgrading properties’ current housing stock, including insulation and so on, all of which can offer long-term benefits to the property owner and their energy bills.
