Living Standards Directly Affected By Property Prices

The chartered financial planner and managing director of Informed Choice, Martin Bamford, has claimed that house prices have a significant impact on the standards of living throughout the country.

He illustrated this, pointing out that because houses in the north are more inexpensive, the mortgage costs that come with purchasing one will inevitably be lower. An area where property is very expensive will see people’s household incomes stretched more thinly as they are met with higher mortgage bills.

"Across the UK, there are pockets where housing is far more expensive than the local average, so the cost of living in these areas can be very high also," Mr Bamford said, referring to the high prices of housing in places in and around London and the South East.

An essential mistake people are making, he claimed, is that they allow themselves to increase their living costs alongside increases in pay. He continued, "It is by increasing this gap between earnings and expenditure that you are able to build long-term wealth to support your family.”
