Property Agency Training Launches Code Of Practice
As part of the company’s commitment to promoting high standards in the property agency industry, training provider Property Agency Training has unveiled its new Code of Practice for residential estate agents and letting agents providing their services to the public.
Taking a holistic approach to both sides of the traditional property industry dichotomy between sales and lettings, the Code of Practice aims to provide agents operating in both sectors with a clear and concise overview of best practice principles and guidelines for performing the core functions associated with residential property agency. “This document has been a while in the making as we wanted to ensure that it would be both thorough and concise, which can be quite a balancing act. Our Code addresses the central areas and principles that make for best practice in selling, letting and managing property, without getting convoluted with excessively pedantic detail or examples more appropriately explored in a dedicated training setting. |
It was a key objective to produce a code that is easy to navigate,” commented Property Agency Training’s CEO Rory James MacLaren-Jackson.
“It is unique in firstly viewing sales and lettings as very much two sides of the same coin, which is also reflected in the concept of the ‘property agent’ that we use throughout our activities, as opposed to an overly specialised focus on one side or the other of the traditional split that often leaves individuals wholly unaware of what their colleagues on the other side of the split do.
“And secondly, we wanted to combine fundamental general principles such as professional excellence, integrity and client care with something we often see neglected which is the pragmatic business side of property agency. Therefore we also highlight other points such as efficiency, commercial awareness and enthusiasm for working as a property agent, in order to build a better all-round business. Because a healthy, successful agency is good for everyone involved, whether clients, applicants, employees or the business-owners themselves.”
It is important to note that the Code of Practice is nevertheless a framework and is not intended to replace training and professional development. As Mr MacLaren-Jackson added:
“Our Code of Practice is designed to highlight key principles and areas of importance for further study, either by direct research or through educational courses such as those we offer. But by its very nature any code of practice of a couple dozen pages at most cannot be a substitute for high-quality and thorough training in the field of sales, lettings and property management.”
Agencies that follow the principles and standards of the Code of Practice can apply for Property Agency Training’s Agency Accreditation Scheme.
